Do You Delegate?
Managers have to delegate to meet business deliverables. Delegating work is a skill like any other one that you need to manage employees. No one receives lessons on this skill yet you have to do it to be successful as a manager.
I know I felt uncomfortable the first time I shifted work from my plate to one of my team members. I realized my role was to manage my business deliverables and employees, and to help them maximize their learning and skills. Delegation gives your employees more opportunities to grow.
I did some research and came upon the following: “10 Quick Tips for How to Delegate” on Joan Henshaw blog. It’s a cheat sheet on delegation which helps you understand the full value of the “art of delegation.”
If you are a manager who has a hard time letting go out of fear that it won’t be done right, then you need to start small and give away small portions. You train others and then let go of that portion as the employee is now responsible for the deliverable. Micromanaging an employee will hinder your growth as well as the employee.
Be well,
