Hiring For a Start Up
Finding the right talent for the business is always a challenge. In startups, it’s likely the owner doesn’t have strong recruiting skills or are looking for replicas of them; both of which can hamper finding the right person to do the job.
Most managers are looking for “stars”: individuals who shine in one particular area. This type of employee can be important in some areas of the company; for example, sales. Yet keep in mind “stars” aren’t always team players and that could potentially be a problem in the long run.
I found this article by Srinivas Kulkarni on Zdnet.com: “Tips to hire the right person for your startup”
Hiring the right candidate for an evolving, emerging business is crucial and, typically, the right candidates tend to be those who are reliable, possess entrepreneurial traits too, and takes the initiative regardless of the circumstances.
The point he makes is create a simple job description in order to define what you are looking for, set expectations and find the person with the right attitude and understands your vision.
If you have a plan before you start the recruiting process, you will lay the groundwork for a successful search of the right talent for your company.
Be well,
Pat
