How To Be A Great Manager!

By pat, No Comments

A manager doesn’t always get a lot of recognition in a company for what they bring to the business. Partly because businesses are streamlining resources and believe the manager is not critical. More important is that managers have to learn how to manage. Like any role, it takes skills, knowledge and a desire to bring out the best in you.

Over the years, I go back to books I’ve read previously to refresh my memory of the pearls of wisdom they have shared. I love the title of this book and it’s been around since 1999…..still applies today.

”First Break All the Rules…What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Different,” by Marcus Buckingham & Curt Coffman.

The book, by the Gallup Organization, surveyed over 80,000 managers in over 400 companies. Great managers have learned what is important to build a team. This book has lots of knowledge to offer the newbie or more seasoned manager, and I’ve highlighted The Four Keys they believe are important to succeed in your role as a manager:

-Select the person
-Set expectations
-Motivate the person
-Develop the person

I can’t do justice in explaining these Four Keys, so I would suggest that you check out

First Break The Rules…..and gather all their pearls of wisdom.
