Recruiting and Social Media
Looking for great talent? How do you go about finding the right people to build your business? More and more companies are looking to social media to find great talent as well as find out information about potential candidates. The use of this venue to recruit is growing as you can see from the following post:
On HRMorning.com, read “Using social media for recruiting continue to grow: Survey,” which provides some statistics on how social media is now being used.
Recruiting passive job candidates remains the top reason that organizations use social media for recruitment. Currently, 84% of organizations use social media to recruit and 9% plan to use it.
This is a great way to find talent, though one point in the post indicates that some companies don’t use it because of potential concerns around legal risks (discovering protected class information such as race, religion, etc.) that may stop a recruiter from contacting that person. As long as you diversify your contacts while researching and reaching out to potential candidates, you should be fine in this area. Document the people you contact so you have backup on all of your recruiting efforts. If you do speak with a candidate, ask only questions around their experience and skills and document their responses.
Since many strong candidates are approached via social media, take time to create an email that might interest the candidate in your company. Keep in mind when you reach out to candidates, they may not be interested but know of someone who might be a good fit for the position and company.
Be well,
Pat
